Civic Oil Change Indicator on Dash Board

Hello All,

Recently I saw this indicator on the Civic (2007 I think) dashboard which shows how much oil life is left. I was wondering if someone can shed light on how this works.

Thanks

Its called Honda’s “mileage minder” system. A computer determines when to change oil, and other maintence and operation items. Its in the manual.

The light is controlled by the ECM. The ECM is programmed with a huge mathematical algorithim that monitors number of engine starts, engine RPM, average speed, closed throttle time, wide open throttle time, etc… It uses these numbers to determine when you need to have your next service done. The important thing is to remember to reset the light when you have the service performed. This should be done even if you have the oil changed before the light comes on.
