Is there a way to test a fuel pump to make sure it is 100% that before replacing. I already have my tank off and can access the pump and housing. Just want to make sure the problem doesn’t exist in the housing and other components and is for sure the fuel pump only. I may just replace the entire housing to be sure if there isn’t a way. But a big price different for everything vs just the pump. 2004 ford tuaurs se
Ya got everything out already so I think usually you just replace everything and the pig tail as well as the relay. You can do a draw test on just the motor but I have been told that running it out of gas can ruin a good pump.
We had a ford that would randomly not start after driving. Towed to the dealer twice and started right up. Had good cooperation from the dealer and had wife stop there every time she drove by to replicate a no start condition. In their parking lot no start, they hopped right on it, bad fuel pump and life was good after that. No codes. So I say my answer is unless it can be diagnosed in failure mode who knows.
Open trunk. Do you see a red button (often upper left) with signage saying to push button to reset fuel pump? Not sure if applies to your car OP, but some Fords use an inertia-safety switch to make the sure fuel pump won’t continue to run in event of collision.
Suggest to let shop test your fuel pump if it is in that configuration. As posted above, best to test fuel pump while it remains in its proper position inside the fuel tank. Before tank is dropped or anything fuel-related disturbed. Gasoline vapors extend a long way from the liquid gasoline, and any spark or flame can set the works ablaze. Even just turning on a flashlight.
Yes there is, but it’s done before you lower the tank and remove anything and requires equipment that the average DIY’er doesn’t have. So at this point since the tank is out I recommend just replacing the entire assembly.
