Check Engine Light

Check Engine Light on my car has been on for about a year. Neighborhood mechanic replaced some hoses in the evap system, the light goes off for a while and then comes back on. Now they diagnosed it as replacing Evap Leak detector pump, evap canister, evap purge solenoid. I then had it diagnosed by the dealer who replacing “purge harness and solenoid needs to be replaced.”

replace the gas cap first. you would be suprised at how many times that fixes an evap problem. also, did either of the shops actually “smoke test” the evap system? that will lead them to the exact cause (if it is a leak) about 99.99999% of the time. if they didn’t, they aren’t even beginning to diagniose the problem correctly.
