This van has 95000 miles on it. I recently had it serviced at a gm dealer. Is there an easy way to cancel this light.
Thanks victor64
You have to clarify something. Did you bring it to the dealer because of the Check Engine light? Or did the Check Engine light come on after the service?
At the minimum, you need a code reader to turn off the Check Engine light.

Take it back to the dealer. They should know where the check engine light switch is.
Unhook your battery for 3 minutes. That should do it.
your gas cap maybe bad
thats what was wourg with mine

That light tells you when something is wrong with the engine. Why would you want to simply cancel it? You need to get the codes read and post those codes here. Many auto parts will read the codes for free. Unhooking the battery cables will only reset it. As soon as it detects the same problem again, it will come back on, probably within 24 hours. Replacing the gas cap will only work if that is the problem, which it might not be.
A solid check engine light usually indicates a minor problem, like a bad Oxygen sensor or a failing catalytic converter. Things like this probably won’t do any harm to the car. A flashing check engine light indicates a serious problem. So don’t disable the light. Find out why it is on and then you can either fix the problem or ignore it until it starts flashing, at which time you will have no choice but to get it fixed.
That CEL (check engine light) is just a kid in class waving her hand trying to get you attention because she has the answer. You need to have the codes read. Some places will read them for FREE. Try Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. Get the exact code (like P0123) not just their translation into English and post it back here.
It can be as simple as a loose gas cap to a brake problem.
Sorry we can’t be more specific, but without knowing when the light came on and what the dealer did, we can only guess.
