CC Sport Coolant Issue

I have a 2011 CC Sport with a coolant leak. I have someone looking at the car (a family member) but they do not work on Volkswagens typically. The leak isn’t coming from the passenger side and he suspects it’s this part but is unsure the part name. Can anyone identify this part of give advice on what it could be causing the leak?

There is nothing special about a water pump on a vehicle no matter what brand it is .
This family friend appears to be in over his head so find a shop before you overheat this vehicle and do serious engine damage.
