That is one feature I wish I had control over, you can not, even with key fob in your pocket, lock your doors electronically with the engine running… I take my dogs almost everywhere with me and unless I use the mechanical lock, I can not lock the doors with the engine running… And the SR5’s don’t come with remote starts…
That reminds me of the time the same family was riding around in the pick up bed and when they got home they was stuck back their for hours cause the tailgate was stuck closed…
Be honest now, who hasn’t driven off with the coffee or whatever on the roof? Our safety officer drove away once with the gas hose still connected. Or 58 and 61 chevies didn’t require a key to start. Only if you used a key to lock the ignition. I just do not remember if my Pontiac was like that. But my VW had the radio on without regard to the key. You had to remember to shut it off every time. Ford had the key on the left an$ Gm was on th3 righ.
The town was the very-upscale Florham Park, NJ. The fines range from $25 to $75, and I was surprised to learn that a court appearance is required for this type of ticket.
Came pretty close to that one Sunday morning in Indianapolis. I didn’t know certain offenders had to make an appearance at the courthouse. 500 miles from home and I’m supposed to come back? Plus they don’t take checks or debit cards.
The only time I have even been close to this was after hooking up a trailer and then a car on a trailer, we left the (big) flash light on the rear bumper, drove about 200 miles, up/down hills and many curvy road and it was still on the rear bumper when we got to our destination… lol
Surprising what will stay on the rear bumper of a truck, I have a small thick string that fell between the tailgate and bed and landed on the bumper, I forgot to get it, but saw it next time I went somewhere, so I have left it there now just to see how log it will stay on the rear bumper, so far about 2 weeks… lol
The regulations didn’t change retroactively; they eliminated future emission credits to manufactures that included stop/start system in their vehicles.
You were discussing disabling stop/start on an existing vehicle, unlikely to happen unless that vehicle was certified for production, both with and without stop/start.
Was start/stop created to squeeze out just a tiny bit better MPG rather than reduce emissions? Plus, most S/S systems can be turned off when starting the vehicle. Inconvenient but available.
I was referring to the Carista not supporting any change to any emissions part(s) such as stop/start system, however lots of aftermarket support for auto stop/start eliminator kits, may not be legal in some/all states, but if you live in a state without emissions testing, no issues… And most are pretty simple plug n play and you can remove them anytime… All they do is keep you from having to press a button (or whatever) on the dash… think of it as an auto button pusher…
Looks like the 4th gen Tacoma’s (2024 and up) now have or some anyway have the stop/start, I know that Justin from OTT has a tune for it, I need to see if Justin eliminates stop/start in his 4th gen Tacoma tune or not…
I don’t have S/S, but some posts have said when towing a trailer the S/S is disabled. At HF saw a trailer light tester that plugs into the vehicle trailer light port. I wonder if this would disable the S/S?
Wouldn’t you have to remove it when parked away from the home garage to keep someone from stealing it, then plug it back in when driving again? I would think even if it worked, just pushing the button on the dash (or whatever) would be more convenient…
A trailer light plug? Do things like that routinely get stolen where you are? I’ve got a hitch cover on my pickup, and while it’s not a daily driver I’ve never given a second thought to having it stolen from a parking lot in 20 years.
Both. The EPA ruled they were one and the same when they got CO2 classified as a harmful emission. Better MPGs means lower CO2 emissions. I think this classification has been overturned.
Permanently defeating SS is seen as emissions tampering so it is illegal. But just pushing the button every time you drive is just fine and dandy.
I had a GM car that required I press a little lever to release the key after turning it off. I do not know why it was there but it got so that I didn’t even need to consciously press it. It became muscle memory. So much so that I cannot tell you which car it was!
Is it considered permanently defeating it, if it is a plug n play add on that only memorizes the last setting it was on, meaning, all you have to do is push the button again and it is back in SS mode every start up, push the button again and it stays in elimination mode??
In my twisted simple mind, It is not permanently removing/defeating it as it is still part of the vehicle and can be turned back on at any time while the vehicle is being driven, unlike removing a cat converter or EGR valve etc from the vehicle, or even turning it off with a tune… (not sure if they can be turned off while driving or not, never really thought about it lol)
