Car surges during low-speed acceleration

I have a 1999 Toyota Camry XLE with a 3.0 V6. It’s got 102,000 miles and has run great for the last year or so I’ve had it until just a week or so ago.

Now, when I accelerate gradually from a stop or keep a steady speed of about 25 or 30, the car kind of surges a bit.

It’s not always really noticeable – except, perhaps, to me since I drive it regularly. You can barely make out a fluctuation on the tachometer.

Like I said, it’s usually between 0 and 25-30 MPH. If I really accelerate hard, you don’t notice any surging.

I’m just looking to regain that smooth acceleration which made this car nice to drive.

Any ideas?
