My mother owns a '97 Honda Accord with 140,000 miles. Sometimes the engine surges while driving on the highway and sometimes it surges in town at lower speeds. I might add that the tachometer needle is broken. At times it sticks at zero and at other times it jumps all over. Are the two problems related? She recently had a tune-up, but the problems still exist.
