I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cylinder with 127K miles. After driving for a period of 30 to 45 minutes, it will cut off and it takes 30 minutes to an hour before it will restart. I have had the fuel pump, crankshaft position sensor, ignition control module, coil pack and computer replaced and I am still having the same proble. Before I spend anymore money, does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
I have seen a clogged fuel filter do this. Have you been able to check for fuel and spark when the car cuts out?
No, but I will try that next. Thanks.
The 30-45 minutes suggests that this is heat related. Car warms up until it overheats in, say, 30-45 minute, then some heat-sensitive part, say the coil packs, stops working. Engine cools off in a half hour, and you’re back in business. My suggestion: replace the thermostat, check the coil pack(s).
