My Mom has a 1990 Honda accord.
The car will keep running for a full minute after
she turns the key off. She is afraid to drive it
because she is worried it will stay running longer.
Could it be the ignition switch?

Are you sure the engine is running and not the cooling fans for the engine?
She has had the car for 2 years and it just started doing it 2 weeks ago.

No. The engine is transverse mounted. The fans are electric. This is normal as the fans are used to cool the fluid in the radiator. However, the car may be running hotter than normal. Have your mechanic check to make sure that it is not running too hot.
