Car has transmission problem?

I will again reiterate my recommendation of a 1997-2001 Toyota Camry. There literally does not exist a vehicle which offers better bang-for-the-buck. Even at 23 to 27 years old, these models are likely more reliable than any used vehicle made in the past few years.

And she will reiterate that she doesnā€™t want a sedan, she has said over and over she wants a hatchā€¦

Other than that, they were great carsā€¦

A car that old where I live is probably rusting apart underneath. Suspension parts, subframes, brake lines, and fuel lines would all be suspect and very expensive to repair. Not to mention the safety features of a car that old are inferior to anything even a few years newer.

Yes parting is such sweet sorrow when you have to put down and old friend. On the other hand it is a great feeling when that tow truck comes and takes it away and you get a check besides.

Thereā€™s a CarMAx in my neighborhood, They didnā€™t have anything I didnā€™t already try at other dealers.

WTH??? WHY and HOW is my reply duplicated like a dozen times??? And I canā€™t delete any of them. I thought if I clicked on those 3 little dots there would be a delete there, but it seems that only posts yet another one. Counted 11 or 12 already, Anyone now how to delete all but one???

And now itā€™s happening with my cry for help. I hit Reply only once and now thereā€™s like 3 or 4 of them I imagine with THIS one thereā€™ll be even moreā€¦

Only one of each reply is being shown on the forum.

The display issue might be with your browser, there was a forum update recently that is causing odd display issues.

I am not sure what your problem is . But click on the 3 dots then click on the red trash can symbol and your post will be deleted .

Iā€™m not seeing any repeats of your posts here either. Iā€™ve been able to eliminate some recent forum glitches by just deleting the browsing history, how to do that depends on which browser you are using. I click on three vertically orient dots on the top right of this screen, and if asked how far back I want it deleted, I reply ā€œfor all timeā€.

Another idea, try placing the cursor over the browser tab at the top left saying ā€œcar has transmission problemā€. donā€™t click just place the cursor there. Does a message appear about ā€œhigh memory usageā€?

No duplicates on my end eitherā€¦

I ordered a Truck from CarMax and am having it shipped in, luckily it was a neighboring state and will be here soon, I had to drive a 4wd version cause there is not a RWD version anywhere close to me, the Toyota dealers donā€™t have any, and there are 3 CarMaxā€™s with in 45 minutes of me, all full of vehicles, but not what I wantedā€¦
So I can understand the frustration on not finding what you are looking for anywhere closeā€¦

I wish you the best of luck in finding what you are looking forā€¦

Now theyā€™re all gone. Donā€™t know what happened but I donā€™t see them anymore.

Anyway, posted new topic on a couple cars I likeā€¦

No, does not say high memory usage.

Thank you. I just may have. See new post about No More Mazdaā€¦

On that note, I was told by the shop I take (took) my Mazda to, and then junked it with them, that the guy who will buy it will pay $300-400 for it. Didnā€™t mention that that would come to me though. Itā€™s been I think almost 3 weeks? and havenā€™t heard anything about that ā€œguyā€ getting my car.

Is that money supposed to come to me? Does it go to the shop? If it comes to me, do I split it with them? If they got paid, do I ask about why I didnā€™t get it? Howā€™s that work???

Is the repair shop also a junk yard? No.

Did you abandon the vehicle or give up the vehicle in exchange for the shop fees?

Did you agree on a sales price before delivering the vehicle title?

I would simply drive over there and see if your Mazda is still there and nicely ask them what is going on with the car that you have not heard anything back from them yetā€¦ And depending on the answer, just say that you were told a guy would buying it for $XXX and what was going on with that??

Who has the tittle?? Did you pay they shop for the check/diagnostic??

EDIT didnā€™t see Nevadaā€™s post

I had to go back 57 comments to see what this was all about again. At any rare when you junk or sell a vehicle, you have to sign over the title. No title, no money.

In reply to Nevada, davesmopar and Bing: No, the shop is not a junkyard. Itā€™s a collision shop I guess. I took my car there whenever it needed to be looked at, whether it was towed in or I drove it in. But not for oil changes or routine maintenance.

Did I abandon the car or give it up in exchange for shop fees? No, I didnā€™t abandon it as far as Iā€™m concerned. I signed the title over to them. They charged me their hourly rate of $125 for looking at it when it was towed in.

Did I agree on a sales price before giving them the title? No. I wouldnā€™t even think of that. I didnā€™t know that was something one did. I wasnā€™t selling them the car, I was junking it. But I didnā€™t know someone paid for a junked car. I didnā€™t even know about this ā€œguy who usually pays $300-400ā€ until the owner mentioned it.

Who has the title? The owner has the title. When they called to tell me about the carā€™s condition, I went there to see it and talk to them about it - specifically the guy who normally worked on my car. The secretary asked if I had the title and, if so, I have to bring it to them and sign it over to them. I did that either the next day or sometime after. Apparently there was a bank lien on it from 20 yrs ago that I never got taken off when the car was paid off. I didnā€™t realize back then I had to do that, so it was still there. Secretary said sheā€™d call the bank and take care of it. The owner at some point during that conversation with the secretary asked something about the ā€œguyā€ (Iā€™ll call him now) and she said she couldnā€™t call him until I brought the title.

The owner sells cars on a lot somewhere and he asked if I wanted to go look at what he has. While we talked about that for a minute is when he all of a sudden brought up that ā€œthereā€™s a guy who buys vehiclesā€ - I think he said that buys his vehicles - and he ā€œusually pays around $300-400ā€. He didnā€™t say, but I just assumed that I would get that money, although I didnā€™t ask. Thatā€™s the last I heard. I thought they would call me to tell me the ā€œguyā€ picked my car up and I should come get my money. That didnā€™t happen and that was about 3 weeks ago now, I think. Since I posted about my car dying, whenever that was.

As for paying the shop for the check/diagnostic, as I said, they charged me their hourly rate of $125 for looking at it when it was initially towed in.

I think I answered all your questions. I will do what davesmopar suggested, and go there and ask about it. i was going to do that anyway, but havenā€™t because I have to now rely on husbandā€™s car to go anywhere and that all depends on what time he gets home or if he has to use it, so I havenā€™t done that yet.

So a question about that ā€œ$300-400ā€ - do I say anything if they say they get that money and not me because (insert whatever reason they give) ? Do I just let it go?

The signing and handover of the title usually consummates the deal. If you failed to negotiate a price for your junked vehicle, you essentially gave it to them. You can certainly try to negotiate after the fact but have very little leverage IMO.

How much did they charge you in total for diagnostics prior to junking the car? Did you pay that bill? If not, they may consider the car as payment for those services.

Not likely. What business can stay in business if they make no profit on their services? A lot depends on the answers to the question(s) above but a car in that condition is typically going to cost them money to get rid of it or they get some money to offset the costs associated with dealing with it- for example, they have to pay the office person dealing with the paperwork- calling your bank to get the lien removed etc. Plus, they know the guy that buys auction level cars and that is part of their business model.
