Hello, I have a 97 Ford Escort. The Driver side door wont latch. During sever cold the door stays open. If I go out and warm the car (15-20 mins) the door will close. I have taken the panel off the door and couldn’t find where the door was stuck. From what I can tell its in the latch. Is there anything I can do to help me make sure this door doesn’t do this all winter.
THANKS!
Get some white lithium spray lubricant. Open the door, and liberally spray the latch mechanism in the door. Close and open the door several times to work the lubricant through the latch mechanism. Open the door and repeat. Clean up any residue so you don’t get your clothes dirty. See if that helps.
And please, don’t get WD-40. It will wash off any remaining grease then evaporate, making the problem worse later.
Thank you so much for your fast response. I will be going to the store this weekend to get it. Again thank you!
bustedknuckles i always do the wd-40 first to clean it then the lithium spray to lube it back up.
