Can't keep my car running

I have an 1989 Honda Accord. Carbuerated, automatic, 175k miles good cond., well maintained.

The problem: When the engine is cold, it starts up easily. While at high idle during warmup it runs good, but when the engine gets warm and the idle backs down the engine stalls. It will start up again easily but can’t hold the idle. Can you help? What can I do to fix this? I am unable to afford taking it to a shop and I need my car to get a job.

Go to an auto parts store and buy a can of carburetor cleaner. Follow the instructions. It might work and it might not, but it won’t cost much.

Used to be that the sealant that kept fuel out of the plastic floats in the carburetor would deteriorate and the floats would fill up and sink, causing flooding. I don’t know what type are in the 89. If yours are plastic, like the old ones, thay have lasted beyond what they were designed for.
