The only time I’ve seen hydraulic system fail in cold temps is when it gets water in the line some how and it freezes.
LOL, we had lots and lots of different types of hydraulic equipment, including systems in the aircraft themselves. Much of the equipment was industrial hydraulic lifts, but there was equipment of just about every description.
Yeah, the military probably overpaid. However the equipment was the same as that in industrial applications.
