Some of the answers a year ago were as snarky as OP said. And I can’t speak for Kathryn but I think it’s not what you say, but how you say it.

CD-R/RW discs

subject to the
“
finalizing process
”
(a
process that allows discs to be played
on a conventional CD player) cannot be
played.
.
It may not be possible to play CD-R/
CD-RW discs recorded on a music CD

the disc, or dirt, condensation, etc. on the
lens of the unit.
.

environment. Record with the correct
format. (For details, contact the appropri-
ate application manufacturers of the ap-

unit may be unable to play some damaged
discs.
.
If you insert a CD-RW disc into the
player, playback will begin more slowly
than with a conventional CD or CD-R disc.
.
Recordings on CD-R/CD-RW cannot
be played using the DDCD (Double
Density CD) system
I don’t know if the OP still has this question or has figured out, but just leaving an answer here.
The CD player does NOT play mp3 CD, but if you do want to play mp3, put them on a flash drive 64GB or smaller and stick it in the USB plug (2015 Forester has it in the glove box). Select Aux on the head unit and you will play mp3.
only 200 files per folder, more than that and it will ignore files randomly.
I have both a 2004 and 2006 Subaru (Liberty). The 2004 cannot play MP3 but the 2006 can - so I would think your 2007 should be fine with them.
fyi, for anyone wanting to play audio CD’s formatted as mp3 files at home, the Sony DVD Player - DVPSR210P can do it. I use that feature to listen to Car Talk podcasts on my TV set. Not all DVD players can play audio CD’s, and most of the ones that can play audio CD’s cannot play them in the mp3 format. But this particular Sony player can.
My 2010 Kia Forte can play MP3s from CD or USB drive. I use USB drive.
