Camry radio

My mother has a 2008 Camry Hybrid. The radio was fine for about 1 1/2 years. About 6 months ago the radio started emitting a loud ringing sound intermittently. It was so bad she couldn’t hear the Sox game. The dealership replaced the radio about 2 months ago. There was no change. The dealership claims it’s from cell tower interference. That sounds bogus to me. Mom has called Toyota headquarters and they are deferring to her dealership.

Please help!

It’s not very likely that the trouble is caused by a cellular tower. If it was then driving away from the tower should make the noise diminish. To see if the antenna is picking up the noise disconnect the antenna connection to the radio. If the noise goes away then the signal is being radiated into the radio. Another check is to see if the noise appears on both AM and FM bands. If it does then the trouble is most likely coming through the power lead and from the alternator possibly.
