After driving for about 15 min my 92 skylark will die will start right back up in park but when you put it in gear will die. Will be ok if you leave it for about 1.5 hours?
It’s the torque converter lockup solenoid. This is a very common problem on this vintage GM transaxle. The torque converter lockup directly connects the engine and transmission at higher speeds, eliminating the “slop” of the automatic. But if it’s stuck on, it’s like trying to drive a manual transmission without a clutch.
It should only be a couple hundred bucks to fix-- pretty cheap as far as transmission problems go!
