I bought a one-owner, 50,000 mile Buick Lucerne in February. Yesterday I heard a squeaking noice from the steering wheel/column and it is there today. Does this mean I need to lubricate or replace the lower seal on the steering shaft?
It probably means you have a plastic piece in the column assembly that’s slightly changed shape with age. Honestly, it’s sort of impossible to tell where it’s coming from over the internet.
The noise you hear might be from the clock spring located behind the steering wheel. The clock spring is what allows the electrical connections between the controls and the airbag on the turning steering wheel and the wiring harness in the steering column.
