My daughter has a 2002 Ford Taurus with a non-functioning transmission. She’s getting her loan paid down and we need to find out what if any value is in her car. Any suggestions on how we might find out?
1 - Ask a recycler ( wrecking yard ) who would buy it for parts.
2 - Ask an independent mechanic about putting in a used transmission and compare that to the value of a sellable working car. Or keep it now that it works.
3 - then decide.
Post it on craigs list and ebay, heck if you are within 200 miles of chicago I would easily offer $800, look at ebay ads, if you are a member you can see sold, go from there.
