BMW has factories all over the world. The X3 and X5 are built in Spartanburg, South Carolina. There is a factory in Munich also.

Back in the days of the theft of upscale audio systems that were unique to upscale cars like BMW, those initials stood for Break My Window.
Munich is the world headquarters for BMW. The logo is a stylized propeller turning; originally BMW made aircraft engines and motorcycles before they made cars.
The other story for the logo is that it shows a small area of the blue/white Bavarian state flag. They didn’t start referring to their airplane engine heritage until a number of years after they came up with the logo.
Agree the colors represent those on the Bavarian flag.
