Automatic Transaxle

1994 Buick Century 3, 1-L automatic transaxle won’t go into gear until engine temperature hand is past the one quarter mark.

Step #1 with transmission problems is always to check the level, the color, and the smell of the transmission fluid. Have you done that?

Wait until the engine is warmed up, drive the car for a couple of miles, and then check the fluid while the engine is running (with the transmission in “Park”, and the e-brake set). If the level is low, refill to the proper level with the type of fluid specified in your Owner’s Manual.

And, if this transmission has never been serviced, this is the time to have the pan dropped and cleaned out, the fluid and filter changed. DO NOT go to AAMCO, Lee Myles, Cottman, or any other chain–unless you want to be told that your transmission needs to be replaced, whether is actually needs to be replaced or not. Look for an independent transmission shop that has been in business for at least 3 years.

Ok, so what happens when the temp guage gets to the 1/4 mark?? Will it then go into gear?? Will it shift like nothing is wrong with it or will it slip and hesitate to shift?? How many miles are on the trans?? When was it last serviced?? How is the fluid level/condition?? Does the fluid smell burnt?? What color is the fluid??
