Did you ever? What did he say?
Yeah about 1979 our pastor took us out for pizza in his olds diesel. He said he really was impressed with it. So in 81 I bought one for $10,000. So much for his advice. Numerous repairs and a couple engines later but 480k, I got $200 for it.
My grandmother said she would never buy another Chrysler, oops not a man ;(
A friend of mine owns a 56 Packard that used to be his dad’s.
He loves the car and conserved it so it drives and looks good.
I miss white wall tires, and chrome wheel covers. A good idea that was eliminated to save a few bucks. Interestingly, my Dodge Aries has metal wheel covers, not chrome, just brushed steel.
The sidewalls of white wall tires were actually weaker than those of the “plain Jane” black walls.
Wheel covers could go off into the woods when you hit a pothole .
White wall tires were more trouble to keep clean and look terrible after a curb strike.
I don’t remember what year but my last set of whitewalls were getting pretty hard to find. I said I only planned to keep the car for another year. I ended up with a no name set for about $100. They were actually good tires though.
Agree especially with the spinner or full moon wheel covers.
You mean like the fake wire wheel covers that you needed the proper key to remove. I still have a Buick yellow one if anyone needs it. I ended up just welding a nut on the thing instead.
Usually folks reply they like and recommend the brand of stuff they own. The only notable negative response I’d had to that question was somebody who owned firestone tires. Appeared he wasn’t a firestone fan.
Anyone that wants white walls can also buy rims with a white painted stripe and use low profile tires. I’ve seen this occasionally on the televised classic car auctions.
Used to be able to buy those inserts that fit over the tire bead.
