Costco has more than one level βmembership,β with $60 the lowest. It is all you probably need, unless you are buying large quantities for a business. I found they were automatically renewing me at the $100 level, and got them to refund the difference.
We have one of the higher level memberships . . . it makes sense for us, even with the higher membership fees. Doesnβt work out for everybody, but it does in our case
Just to help you reach 200β¦
I use only the best in my cars β¦ 100% Organic, hand picked, gluten free, hand crafted, Extra Virgin (never been kissed) Phillipo Berio and Dom Perinon in the windshield washer .
But seriously guys weβre not racing at Indy, all of these oils are more than adequate so the body will be rusting off long before the engine wears out

When Slick50 first came out, I fell for the TV commercials and tried it a few times.
This thread is similar.
AMS invests a lot of money in marketing to change customer perception. They do it because it works, and this thread is a good example of it.
Time to invoke Dennis Miller:
This thread needs to disappear faster than a pack of smokes at an AA meeting!
Can we wait until it reaches 200 posts ?
Only 12 more to go!
OK, itβs dark and cold out. Iβve got nothing to do. I guess if βcontinued researchβ means checking Youtube for more dealer videos, I give a grade βFβ for research. But like I said anyway Iβm not interested even if there were 20 PhD petro scientists with great reviews.
Now if you look at the links in post 164, I donβt remember if it is the first one or the second, but he drains the oil after I dunno, 20K or something, then exclaims that there are no particles in the bottom of the pan. Of course not, they are suspended in the oil. But worse he scrapes his fingers in the oil to show how thick it is. That was disgusting to see how gooey and black that oil was and to think it was in an engine. I canβt believe that oil was anywhere near the β0β or β5β weight you would expect. I have never experienced that kind of oil when changing oil-probably in the thousands of gallons now. Black and thick like gear oil.
So if anyone is interested in wasting their money and engine protection, take a look at the dealer links. Then go change your own oil and see how that compares. Yeah youβd expect gear oil to provide pretty good lubricity. Over and out. Doing my part.
I was always skeptical about βextendedβ oil change intervals exactly for this reason: you can not fool the nature, if oil accumulates suspended micro-particles over time, the longer that interval is - more of that particles will float in the oil.
These are smaller than filter can catch, so I will let Amsoil believers to abuse their engines with this βsoupβ, but Iβm not doing it to my cars.
What a coincidence!
When Iβm looking to use unsubstantiated claims to support my argument, I also go to YouTube.
Iβm just waiting for someone to bring Scotty Kilmer into the discussion.
That youtube is a perfect summary of this thread. If @scionf considers it proof of anything, no further discussion is worthwhile. But here I go:
I was expecting something, anything, to demonstrate why that person liked Amsoil over Mobil1. Before and after photos, wear readings, oil quality analysis results, anything. We got nothing.
He left out key information, like how often he added oil between changes. If he was adding a quart every 2,000 miles, thatβs 17 new quarts between changes, plenty to keep the additives replenished.
But hereβs my biggest problem with it: I think thereβs a good chance that video is 100% BS. Look at that motor and engine compartment. Theyβre SPOTLESS. I havenβt seen an engine with 30,000 miles that clean, much less one with over 300,000. Every nook and cranny looks brand new, no dirt, no grime. No rust or corrosion on anything. How is that possible???

I think you answered your own question 100% BS.
Heh heh I said I was done but, yeah like the more answers are provided the more questions are raised. So maybe the car went 370K but the engine is new, paid for by Amsoil under warranty, provided the guy agrees to do a commercial. I really wanted to see what that oil looked like when he drained it but no such luck. Kind of telling though the guy has a long list of car products on Amazon that he gets a cut on.
Now hereβs the thing. These little businesses allow you to file a Schedule C and deduct losses from your regular income. Then like magic after three years of losses, you make a slight profit for two years. Or start another little enterprise.
Really reminds me of Amway though. Same sales technique. Same super product that no one else can touch. Back in 1970 a guy at work suckered me to his house one night and then I found out what he was selling. Then my good neighbors 20 years ago took up the challenge. Sheesh. Said my family was at risk if I didnβt buy their battery smoke detectors. βBut mine are hard wired. Well you need both. No I donβtβ. Then on to car wash and detergents. Let me out of here.
@sciconf knows heβs the only one drinking the kool-aid
He knows heβs not bringing anybody over to his side
I think heβs straight out trolling us and pushing buttons at this point
His idea of validation just keeps getting more far-fetched
Hey, thereβs the cat trying to knock all the bottles of oil off the flat earth. Nice kitty!
OK by not request here is Scottie. @asemaster
