Amsoil Vs Mobil 1

Overkill for a regular car engine he says. @VOLVO-V70 Ok did my part, got it over 200!

Then you agree with the video that the average driver cannot benefit from Royal Purple or Amsoil?

No, that is a reason the oil pressure may be too high, not low.

I like and use Royal Purple in the car I take to track days. 255 degree head temps, 245 degree coolant temps and 235 degree oil temps beg for a bit more help. Using Royal Purple actually lowered my oil temps 15-20 degrees. The factory 8 quart oil pan means changes are a bit pricey, but engines are expensive. I use RP diff fluid as well.

But I’d never run that stuff 10,000 miles.

I could have gone the rest of the weekend without seeing that video.

I think I appreciate him more than you. It is sunday by the way

I am not a mechanic - but here is the source where I got info:

Not for a racer.
Extremely hot oil gets real thin. It flows easily past bearings which often have larger clearances than street car bearings.
A winning race engine strikes a delicate balance, on the edge of destruction.

I reject your source.

I am an automotive engineer, racer, DIY mechanic, engine builder and I understand how oil systems work. And I don’t work for Amsoil nor any other oil companies…

Apparently youtubes by ā€˜randos’ are more to be believed.

Could you pls educate me and possibly others as to what happened to the GMC vehicle - how come pressure went up right after using that AMS fluid? He seems to demonstrate it clearly beyond that I am learning!

No I can’t because nothing IN that video can be accepted as fact. It could all be YouTube magic. I don’t know nor do you know the actual facts of the case. Not everything on the internet is fact.

The guy could have poured 15W50 oil in the truck and simply TOLD us it was 5W30 Amsoil. The old oil could have been so old - it looks awful with maybe a significant load of coolant in it - that fresh oil of ANY kind with no flush would have the same effect.

And the biggest problem with this video… there is no look inside the engine. Is it sludged up? We don’t know, we were not shown the insides. Did the flush clean the sludge? We don’t know THAT either, we were not shown the insides.

Maybe, just maybe, the guy just wants an Amsoil sponsorship for his channel…

@sciconf

How about you stop posting videos by guys who are probably shills . . . ?!

This happens occasionally at work. I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but I’m a 30+ year veteran of the automotive service field, ASE Certified Master Technician, State Authorized Emissions Specialist, shop manager and have been a trainer for state smog control programs. And yet I have people question my diagnosis or recommendations by saying ā€œI saw on Youtubeā€¦ā€

I have no explanation for this phenomenon.

Scotty’s video is dated Sept 2018 - I do not know what were the prices then. I have seen oil prices dropping over the years.

  • I started on Conventional oil, Semi-Synthetic and then to Full Synthetic.
  • Now I am thinking about 100% Synthetic. If I am driving more than 10k in a year, I would use a spread sheet to conduct a cost analysis.

OK. Onward onward to 300. Or as you St. Olaf folks would say ā€œfram fram christman crossmanā€.

Guess I do not care about cost analysis, get an oil change spring and fall. Sure I try and save gas in hilly terrain by speeding up downhill and not pushing it uphill. Wife and I have thrifty scott written into our genes, we spend money where we think it is needed and save money where we think it is not, amsoil is only on the list except for the 2 cycle boat, my boat guy refills quarts at a reduced cost from his drum, amsoil for the car is not on the list. Sure my 2003 trailblazer was burning a quart every 3k after 187k miles
miles with regular dino change, then it was wrecked. 1 Quart every 3k miles was ok with me. Sorry I am even responding, but maybe we can get to 300 posts!

That’s obvious.

It’s like the video from Slick-50 some years ago where they put slick-50 in a mower - ran it for a while and then drained the oil and started the mower up again and ran for a few hours. It was a total SCAM. The oil was NEVER drained.

And as I’ve said before…Amsoil could be the best oil ever made - it doesn’t mean a thing. People aren’t keeping their vehicles over 500k miles.
