Amerian Eagle 1985

The playing cards are worthless UNTIL you have cash in hand from the transaction

Until they’re sold, they just have potential value

There was recently a “Classic Car” auction (Auburn Indiana) which ran over a 3 day weekend…80% of the cars rolled across the auction block unsold, the “reserve” not met…It seems few of the buyers valued the cars as dearly as the sellers…

I’m in the process of trying to clean out my garage on a two year time frame. Its pretty bad, but I’m sure I have thrown out many thousands of dollars worth of antique items. And my wife keeps asking why I was saving that? We’ll never know my true losses. I do have a WW I trench art lamp made out of a howitzer shell that I’m not parting with for anything though. Sentimental value.

If nothing else, the owners of the cars offered at reserve get an appraisal of sorts fore what their car is worth. This is especially true if it is placed at a premium auction like Auburn and the car is the type that typically sells at this type of auction.

@Bing … good on you, hang on to that howitzer lamp. Sentimental value means extremely high value , at least in my book.

My most valuable antique possession. A plastic illuminated “Budweiser” beer sign. From college dorm days. Not for sale. Highly prized. Sentimental value.

I’m thinking selling your cars on this website isn’t permitted . . . ?

@cdaquila

Yep, no selling cars and parts for heavens sake and I’d better not talk about trench art either. (Although the howitzer lamp is sitting prominently on my work surface with a new shade. Right next to my mounted diesel Olds hood ornament and hub cap cover. 480,000 miles and that’s all that’s left. I spent the $200 years ago.)

Have you tried explaining the actual value of gold to someone? They don’t get it and usually argue that if they had bought gold at $400 per ounce they would have tripled their investment plus gold is inflation proof. No. Following a complete global financial collapse gold would be worth it’s industrial value which would probably be much less than $100 even adjusting for the fact that gold is measured in 12 per pound troy ounces. Under those circumstances water, food, fuel, and ammunition would be the new monetary standard. Wasn’t it around the 1970s when silver was artificially inflated to incredible prices? As I recall the manipulators then dumped their huge stockpile and silver went to near worthless. I have a 50,000,000 dinar Yugoslavian note from 1993 that I purchased as a souvenir in Bosnia in 2000 for about 10 cents that is worth nothing.

I wouldn’t say its worth nothing. I’d pay you a dollar for it if you paid the postage. Agree with you on the gold. Its for people that refuse to invest in stocks. Plus with gold, you either pay someone to hold it for you or you have to hold it yourself. Ever try sleeping on a mattress with a bunch of gold under it?

But…how else would sleaze-bags like Glenn Beck make their money if they couldn’t convince the gullible and the uninformed that owning physical gold is the route to financial security?

Gold is fine for previous owners, but I keep thinking If i had bought a barn, and stowed all my old cars, along with whatever I picked up on the streets in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s I would be rich beyond compare. MGB, Corvette, Nova, cougar, jaguar, bonnevile convertable, roadrunner, gremlin, etc.

Ouch! I have the worst luck at gambling so don’t play the market or invest in precious metals. I have savings in the bank earning nothing just like cash under the mattress but at least it is sort of insured.

I would have needed a pretty large barn. There were many dirt cheap Corvettes I could have purchased and stored in a barn but not have insured and driven. The one that still breaks my heart is a 1954 which was completely restored and only needed paint. The owner was transferred and needed to get rid of it in 1970. $450!!!

Wow, I was wondering how we were going to get this back to cars but you all done good. My list is nowhere near that long but still wish I could have stored a couple. I’m sure I spent the $125 I got for my 59 Pontiac for a good cause.
