Aluminum rims/oem

when the factory clear coat is damaged form wheel weights/ect. the rim gets a corroded surface. how or what can clean up/remove the corrosion on those areas/spots.

or

where can i buy resonable rims…take offs?

I’ve removed the clear coat with acetone, but it’s VERY labor intensive.

Once the clear coat is gone you can polish the aluminum using progressively finer grades of sandpaper, then follow with aluminum polish.

For reasonably priced rims, check a junkyard. Inspect them carefully, they may be damaged from whatever scrapped the car.

Your local dealership might have some rims, depending on how new your car is. When some dealerships get new cars in, they’ll put on an upgrade package that usually amounts to larger rims and maybe some other junk that’ll inflate the car’s price tag by a couple grand. When they do this, they usually keep the old rims and tires

Where do you live? In my area there are services that will come to you in a van and do the job for you.

Or you can buy oem wheels/tires on Craigslist from people who are “upgrading” to larger rims with low profile tires.

Junkyards may be your best friend depending on the year and model of your vehicle.
