I am replacing an alternator in my 1999 buick regal and forgot if my longer bolt went in the bottom or in the back. Please help.
Put the longer bolt in one of the holes…if it can’t go in as far as it should, then that’s where the smaller bolt should go
Can you place the bolts randomly in the holes and see (or feel) approximately how much of each bolt sticks out after it “bottoms” against the threads where it begins screwing in?
If one has too little bolt sticking out then try switching them. Each bolt has to make a good purchase of threads without bottoming out in the hole before fully tightening.
