All tires have white layers?

One company that still sells them calls them Porta Walls. They also talk about the origin of white walls being the use of carbon black only in the tread. Like I said before, I remember no ‘white wall’ looking tires on period photos of really antique (pre-1910) cars, so I think they’re wrong.

Let’s see must have been about 1960 when they went from wide white walls to the narrow ones that looked a lot nicer. Then remember the red walls on the GTOs back in the 60’s?

Red lines that I am famliar with were labelled PATROL PURSUIT which implied that they were for police and highway partol use at high speed. And that was in the mid 60s.
