I have a 2000 Lexus RX300 with 210,000 miles on it. We recently started to have some transmission issues. It sporadically drops into 1st gear while driving. We had the transmission fluid changed, and it did help for a short time, but it has recently started again. Is my transmission going to completely fail or is this something that is serviceable? We are trying to decide whether it’s worth it to keep the car and fix it and drive it for another 100,000 miles or sell it. It looks great and drives great, otherwise.
It’s probably time to shop around for a new transmission. Once you know the cost of a new tranny, you can decide whether it’s worthwhile or not.
I’d suggest getting it to a good tranny shop for a look-see. Often our worst fears don’t become reality.
I’d have a transmission shop take a look at it and advise. If the rest of the car is solid it should be worth making the repairs necessary to keep it going.
