Accidental Shift from D3 to Reverse

I am having problems with your advice to the guy who thinks he ruined his girlfriend’s car when he realized he was in D3 and tried to shift to D. First, although I have probably only been in D3 by mistake only one time in my life, many of my friends say that they often make that mistake, but never get the car into Reverse when trying to correct. They agree that it is easy to get into D and at worst go into Neutral, but would never did they go all the way to Reverse.

Second, you never explained why no damage was caused by putting it into Reverse at 40 miles/hr as you claimed. According to the caller the car locked up and skidded sideways. How could there be no damage to the transmission?

Are you guys willing to stand by this answer?
