About to DIY brake pad replacement due to noise

The jack that typically comes with a car lifts it using the pinch weld

What if that’s where you were planning on putting the jack stand?

Anyone is a stretch. Probably bothers the same people that have concern about cheap… or rather… inexpensive jackstands and more recently, slivered onions

All was well just before they started failing too. :grinning:

I don’t want this blown out of proportion- just pointing out some people have either lost or at least dented their trust in that brand.

I would trust something I have personally looked at with a discerning eye and then used for years too.

I had some sketchy stuff in my early years including some jack stands I wasn’t completely comfortable using by themselves. That led to a practice I still use today of sliding the wheel underneath in addition to the stand and the jack both having some of the load if I’m going to town on something and the wheel is off anyway…

Oy! Well, if that’s not something you can figure out then you take it to a shop! Yes, I’m well aware that the emergency jack usually goes on the pinch weld and that that’s also ONE jack stand point. But there are others. Why are you down this stupid rabbit hole? This OP is talking about buying a floor jack. Why don’t you worry about what jack point they will use for that? If they try it on the pinch welds, they’ll just crush them! Unless they have an adapter for that. And then STILL wouldn’t have a place to put the jack stands - except that they would! Because there are generally quite a few options for the jack stands.

I have no problem using HF floor jacks to lift a vehicle. That’s because no one is under the car.

But I don’t have the same comfort with HF’s jack stands. They may cleaned up their quality problems and they may be fine now. No one knows.

Although I’ve only been exposed to a handful of problems over the years with people getting hurt working under their cars, that’s enough for me to take the extra time to reinforce any stands I use.

As others have noted, I’ll always additionally use large blocks of wood, spare tires, or similar items, placed under the car as a backup to any jack stands.

The Mickey D’s Quarter Pounder is my favorite fast food burger. I rarely eat fast food but when I do, that’s my go-to burger. It’s not exactly fast because they cook to order for the QP.

Fast food now? Well, if using the drive through I guess it is car related.
Very rare for me to eat the overcooked, under seasoned, fast food burgers, but if desperate will get either a Whopper or a Big Buford.
I’m old enough to remember when McDonald’s only hired males and made their French fries from whole potatoes (for that one person that does not know what French fries are made from), peeled and cut at the store.
