We still use the ford suvs here. I have no idea if the leave them running or not but I’ll pay attention like a good little citizen. I’m quite sure going electric would be a very had sell. They carry a lot of stuff, plus frequent prisoner transports out of town.
Of course they are left running. LEO running a radar trap with engine off, locks on a speeder only to have the car not start. We can’t have that.

They might be not that reliable when it comes to some emergency situation!
This makes me think of an old meme where a guy is protesting with a sign that reads “I don’t need oil, I ride the bus!”
