It’s a good idea as mentioned above to replace the fuel filter along w/the pump if It hasn’t recently already been done. A clogged fuel filter puts extra load on the pump.
Thank you for the additional words. The fuel filter has been changed. My son did not drive off with it yet as he has a beater car but reliable and needs to get around. I think he will take this car today and see if he can get around with it and have it run normally. If that all checks out, he’ll keep that car and I will get the beater 86 Accord. That car is a wonder it is still running. It idles at 3000 rpm and has a funny clunking noise in the engine. Has been going for years like that. Just waiting to drive that one off a cliff or sell it cheap!!
