97 Quest Hot Weather Siesta

Our 97 Nissan quest has a bad habit of occasionally starting to surge, then lose power, and finally die during hot weather. We noticed it first on a long trip to Arkansas, but also when the car’s sat idling for a while… (you know, the wife wants to stay in the car with the A/C blasting while you run in for a loaf of bread)

It only seems to do it once or twice a year (though, maybe I alter our habits after it happens that one time), and when it sits for 20-40 minutes, it usually starts up and lets us get to our destination. In the old days, I’d say it vapor-locked, but with fuel injection, I don’t know… Any suggestions would be appreciated.
