97 Jeep Cherokee Sport 5spd 4.0 litre stiff/loose shifter after slave replacement

97 Jeep Cherokee Sport 5spd 4.0 litre stiff/loose shifter after slave replacement. The problem started shortly after a clutch plate was replaced because of clutch not working. Recently, the shifter has become more difficult to get into the lower gears when the engine is hot, not cold. Local mechanics replaced slave cylinder. After that, the shifter was even more difficult and occasionally the shifter would just “fall” into the needed gear. Engine was running at the time of shifting gears. Please help.

Well, hopefully they replaced more than the clutch plate; it should have gotten a throw-out bearing and pressure plate (sometimes called a cover) also.

It sounds like the clutch hydraulics are a problem and the fault could be in the clutch master cylinder.
JMHO, but whenever a clutch slave or master cyliner is replaced, the other should be replaced at the same time.
It seems like when one is done the other usually fails soon after. Murphy’s Law.
