96' Acura 3.2TL idles rough and loss of power

Goodmorning Everyone,

I was looking for some ideas on what could be causing a problem with my Acura TL.

The problem seems to have started relatively quickly without much notice. My wife told me it started about 2 weeks ago and I just drove the car yesterday for the first time.

No problem starting the car, the idle is low (maybe about 600 rpms) and feels rough. The car normaly had pretty good acceleration but now it’s very sluggish and noticble weaker and rough feeling. She had recently filled it up.

I though it could be some bad gas so I added some fuel injector cleaner and filled it with fresh fuel yesterday and drove it about 4 miles but it was still doing the same thing. I’m not sure if that isn’t enough to get fresh fuel into the engine or if there maight be something else going on.

I’d love to hear some comments… (hopefully just good ones like ‘yeah it’s probably just bad gas. just drive it a little more’).

Thanks in advance.

Kev

You might want to check and see if there are any error codes stored in the car’s computer. If the CEL (Check Engine Light) is on, you can expect error codes. You may find some even if it is not on. The codes can be very helpful in finding a problem. Some places will read them for FREE. Try Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. Get the exact code not just their translation into English and post it back here. It likely will have a format like P1234.

The usual suspects: spark plugs and wires, dirty original fuel filter, air filter. Then, it requires troublshooting.

Well, I stopped in at the local Advanced Auto and had them plug in the computer. No luck. there were no error codes to go on…

Here is some updated info:
I still the same symptoms as before but now I’ve a check engine light and a code to go on. Here is the way it reads. I’d realy apperciate if you have some more input to this problem. Thanks Kev

If your car is back of 150k, take it to the dealer. All 96-97 Honda’s and Acura’s have extended emission coverage to 150k and 13 years. Just about anything that turns on the Check Engine light is covered.

Actually it 14 years, and if you have over 75k, it includes a free set of sparkplugs and ignition wires.
