93 taurus

I BOUGHT A 93 TAURUS GL (4 door 6 cylinder) IT HAD BEEN JUMPRED SO THAT THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTING WIRE. RAN FROM THE BRAIN BOX (WHAT I CALL IT, THE BOX WITH 12 WIRES THAT SITS RIGHT OVER THE RADIATOR.) TO THE FUSE PANEL. YOU CONNECT THE JUMPED WIRE TO THE FUSE PANEL. WITH A CLIP BEFORE YOU CRANKED IT. HEY, IT WORKED FINE SO I WAS NOT COMPLAINING. I HAD TO FIX CRACK IN THE RADIATOR. WHILE FIXING THE CRACK I HAD TO TAKE THE GROUND POST OFF THE BATTERY. AFTER FIXING THE LEAKY RADIATOR. I PUT THE GROUND BACK ON. THE NEXT MORN I GOT UP TO GO TO WORK. AND THERE WAS NO POWER TO THE FUEL PUMP. IM A DIY KIND OF GUY AND HAVE MECHANICAL EXPERIANCE. HOWEVER, I JUST CAN?T FIGURE IT. IVE CHECKED THE FUSE PANEL/JUMPER WIRE AND THERES NO POWER? WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST? ANY ANSWERS WOULD BE SO APPRECIATED!!! CAN I ROB POWER FROM THE BATTERY SUCCESSFULLY?

also does anyone know what that box is called ?

THANKS, JUSTIN

SORRY, BUT ALL CAPS IS JUST TOO HARD TO READ WHEN THERE’S SO MUCH OF IT IN ONE PARAGRAPH WITH NO BREAKS, MINIMAL PUNCTUATION, ETC. BESIDES THAT, WRITING IN ALL CAPS IS LIKE SHOUTING, AND MOST PEOPLE CONSIDER IT IMPOLITE.

Maybe you should try again with the caps lock disengaged.

It sounds like someone jumped the fuel pump relay at the relay box, bringing power directly to the pump. Your pump circuit is probably permanently energized now. That’ll drain a battery.

My suggestion? Put the circuits back in order and try to figure out why the jumper was there. Perhaps it only needed a new relay and someone was world-class cheap. Perhaps there’s a bad contact in the key cylinder and rether than tear into the steering column they jumped the relay. It’ll take some troubleshooting to find out, but that’s what I’d do.

That box is called the ICRM, or Integrated Controller Relay Module, and it controls several things (fuel pump, cooling fan, A/C, etc.)

Your post is a bit unclear. Are you saying the pump wire only is dead or is the battery itself completely dead?

I would point out the ICRM module itself is not prone to failure. The problems usually occur in the wire connector that attaches to it.

If the jumper wire connects to the fuse box, and it’s doesn’t have power, have you checked the fuse?
There is an inertial fuel shutoff switch between that relay box and the fuel pump. If that switch has been tripped, the fuel pump won’t run. The inertial fuel shutoff switch is resettable. It’s may be under the hood, or in a foot-well area. Reset, and you may be good to go.
For the location of the inertial fuel shutoff switch, open the trunk lid, peel back the carpet on the left. To reset it, you may depress the big white button on it.
