Just noticed this today. When I downshift to approach an intersection / driveway, I hear a sound that is almost like whirring/flute like. I know that sounds silly, but it is not at all a grinding or squealing.
I’ve owned the car since 99, and I haven’t had to replace the clutch. I get regular maintenance / oil changes (and then some…new timing belt, oil plan…and so on.) Just over 163k on it.
any ideas for me? Thanks in advance!

Why are you downshifting? Why not use the brakes instead?
When was the last time the transmission oil was changed?
