81' Honda Civic Carburetor

TIME TO PUT THIS THREAD TO BED…WE turned it into “A Lounge Discussion Room” methinks…LOL

Young Buck needs to give the Honda a PROPER TUNE UP…and then proceed with any further troubleshooting if needed.

None of you would happen to know how to properly time my car would you? I have the timing light, but there isn’t any bracket with marks on it telling me just exactly where the timing is. I found three little marks on the main pulley, but other than that i’m stuck.

There’s a little window on the transmission bell housing. There may or may not still be a rubber plug in it to keep stuff out.
Through that window you can see the flywheel and the timing marks on it.

I noticed that hole. So it’s whenever the marks look to be about in the center of that?

Ok… I just went and looked at my car again and got it figured out. Thanks.
Previous Question Void.

There’s a fixed pointer at the center of the window.
Align the mark on the flywheel to the pointer with the light firing off plug #1.
As I recall my 1975 Civic and 1981 & 1988 Accords had 3 marks: the recommended setting, flanked by +/- 2 degrees.

YUP…Circuitsmith nailed it… Do yourself a favor and go to www.Autozone.com…sign in and you will have access to the Repair manuals for most every vehicle out there…including yours. Its way better than having a collapsed bookshelf with repair manuals…Like I do.

The procedures will be all spelled out for you on there. Have fun.

TADA!!! (clap clap clap) Spark Plug Wires… it now runs like a top. many thanks to those who contributed info and experience.

What’d I tell you man? As soon as you told us you got shocked it was a NO Brainer…I really wasn’t going to assist you any further till you did what you had to do…it would’ve been pointless. Jeez man took you long enough…what did you do MAKE the new wires or something?

All that carb talk…despite us telling you that no one really had to mess with those carbs…they were complex but like I and many others said…they rarely ever had to be messed with.

REMEMBER THIS POST?

"Honda Blackbird November 14 Edit Report
Theres really no point in us providing any further theories UNTIL you get a proper tune up/ any High voltage leaks repaired on that engine. There are far too many factors that are in play esp when you have a voltage leak somewhere…whenever you mess around under the hood you could be changing the angle of the dangle of the wires or moving something or another out of the way…where usually it would arc… Hell sometimes you can take a hard turn and items would be displaced and thus be put in a position to arc out. YOU MUST…remedy the ignition system…Also get the timing set properly. "

C’mon HB, give the kid a break! Good job on his part keeping this old thing running!

In my defense I can and have now tuned my carburetor. I know what the “millions” of vacuum hoses do, and I can and have fixed a lot of other minor problems with this and other cars. (and I’m only 16)

Life goes on… Thanks again all.

OK, OK…TRUE…Texases…I am also actually happy for the kid…I had to jab him a little didn’t I ? LOL. We will make a mechanic outta you yet Bemehiser ! There are quite a few really good wrenches on this site and collectively we are like the Mucho Master Mechanico for sure…We are happy to help. I am glad to hear that you are running AND you learned a lot didn’t you ? That’s what its all about man.

Now in a few more years you will be doing all sorts of mechanic stuff…and probably have a bunch of your buddies hanging around…hopefully they brought the beers too…A LOT of BS mechanical stuff gets done (or NOT done…lol) that way…with Beer and Friends…You shall see…you shall see. Just don’t DRINK AND DRIVE man…You cant do that stuff anymore…Cops are MAJOR MAJOR checking for it ALL the time…trust me on that…not to mention the danger aspect of it…to you and others…just don’t do it

AGAIN…I think we are proud of you. You hung in there and knocked it out of the park man…

SO…HOW DOES ALL THAT FEEL? Will you continue to do this stuff or what?

BLACKBIRD

What a circle jerk…

Why you say Caddy?

A 30 year old car…A set of plug wires…81 posts…

I know…True…But I and we called that as soon as he said (admitted) he got shocked…before even… It was screaming for a tune up from the get go…I think we all said it one time or another. I wasnt going to assist further till he did just that… LOL

A Blitzkrieg of astute wrenching we did not exactly witness

But not many 16-year-olds would finally get it done…but then I’m sure the two of you were model students at 16…

Actually I was  Honestly I started my first complete and total Chevy 350 Engine Rebuild a month before my 15th birthday and finished soon after… Now that was a project…I was so nervous but just took my time and got it done. Its still in service today. I am not the norm when it comes to this stuff…I was sort of a savant with mechanical things at an early age.

I’m just glad its done and hes motorin really
