2024 BMW 328 - Need help with diesel mechanic

2014 BMW 328d - apparently needs heated metering line to be replaced. I am unable to find a diesel mechanic around zip 02132 who can do this. BMW dealerships as anticipated are trying to skin me alive. Any advice will be helpful.
Thanks

Youā€™ve searched Yelp and Google for ā€˜BMW mechanicā€™? Being in the Boston area, Iā€™d think there would be a few.

Any good Euro shop should be able to take care of itā€¦ As mentioned, Google is your friendā€¦ lol

Gerardos foreign car service comes highly reviewed, you will want to ask them and get pricing. Other options not in that part of town

Luxury German car is going to come with luxury German car repair prices.

Youā€™re welcome. hereā€™s the site I used and thereā€™s a few others with reviews. BMW Repair Shops & Mechanics Near 02132 | BimmerShopsā€¦
Couldnā€™t hurt to check prices with the dealer but in our experience you can get just as good a service for a more reasonable price at European/German car specialist.

OP. do you see the red horizontal stripe at the top of this page? Click on the link that says ā€œrepair shopsā€.

Just curious, do you know that partā€™s function? What are the symptoms when that part fails on a BMW diesel engine? One of the reasons I ask is b/c here in Calif some years ago some govā€™t officials in Sacramento ordered the Calif diesel fuel formulation be changed, and that change to the fuel-formulation apparently caused no end to the problems Calif diesel car owners experienced at the time. So wondering if your problem could be the source of your fuel?

It apparently is not a safety risk to keep driving but I cannot get car certified by state as the check engine light is on.

Not repairing the line may cause problems in the winter when temperatures are lower.

Most independent mechanics have not been able to figure out the flaw so far.

Thank you for your email

Mandeep

the heated metering line is part of the emissions system, i see a metering line as part of the SCR- not positive that is your need, but that one is about $250. Most independent shops wonā€™t have a whole lot if experience with the newer diesel emissions systems anyway, and throw in the German aspect of it- it may be even more challenging.
I donā€™t often recommend dealerships, but if they have diesel techs there, it may indeed be your best bet- as they should have factory training on this.
These systems are not cheap to repair.

You may also have BMW specific shops in your area. Wolyrobb gave you quite the assist. Make sure you mention it is diesel when you call.

As you know, if you donā€™t fix it, you canā€™t get your inspection sticker. Depending on the software in a BMW, and government regulations, to long with that system failure, and your vehicle may start slowing down. Many of these diesel vehicles have government mandated systems in place to make darn sure you fix the emissions systems.

I donā€™t think BMW did a diesel 328. There was the 330d, but the 328 was a gasoline powered model.

I show a 328d with a 2.0L diesel in 2014. ??

Hmm. Wiki shows a 320d and 325d 4cyl, 330d and 335d 6cyl.

The fuel economy is very good:

Missed this footnote on the 320d: ā€œSold as the 328d in North Americaā€

Thatā€™s what got me as well. I knew the 330d was a thing. And I knew there was a gas powered 328. But I didnā€™t know there there was diesel 328. I double checked on wikipedia, and didnā€™t notice the footnote either.

OP, have you checked some BMW-specific forums? From what I can tell that part pre-heats the fuel as it flows into the engine. I am presuming pre-heating the fuel allows for cleaner combustion and reduced emissions. To preheat the fuel there must be some sort of heating element, probably electrical, & powered with an electric power input. It seems possible that sort of failure could be a fuse, circuitry, or wiring/connector problem, not directly related to any fault w/ the fuel metering pipe. Suggest to look in ownerā€™s manual to see if thereā€™s a fuse labeled specifically for that circuit.

Disclaimer: Iā€™m just a driveway diyā€™er, no diesel engine experience.

Hi
Thanks for information. May have to go to the dealer. Price difference is 33% higher

Suggest to edit thread title, 2014 rather than 2024 model year. Helpful for others searching posts here about same problem.
