2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rental Story - Engine surged, but the vehicle did not - Any guesses what it was?

Enterprise Rental vehicle:
While starting across an intersection after being stopped for a traffic light the engine suddenly redlined to 7000 rpm on the tachometer. The vehicle did not accelerate normally but accelerated at a very sluggish rate, which seemed counter intuitive to what the engine was doing. I immediately stopped on the shoulder of the road and shut the engine off. I restarted the engine, which ran normally after that, and returned the Jeep to the nearest Enterprise lot for another rental.

Not much we can do since this was a rental vehicle, and it doesn’t matter what rental company it was…lol

Its a Jeep Thing.

Don’t buy a Jeep. Maybe not rent one either.

Clearly it was missing an LED light bar, lift kit, color coordinated tow hooks, and an empty otherwise useless rooftop cargo basket.

The Jeep was angry and was demanding these “enhancements”. You were lucky you got out alive.

Can’t forget the “Ditch Lights” on the hood

Or the “Raptor Lights” in the grille

Or the “Rock Lights” in the wheel wells

I am still trying to figure out why they are called ditch light when they are on the hood at the hinges and pointed straight forward, they need to be pointed down and sideways to light up a ditch, and yes I know they can be turned, not the point… lol

I see you’ve gotten a lot of jokes, but not a real answer. It appears that the transmission was slipping badly. Maybe the transmission is failing or maybe the fluid level is way off.

I had thought about the same thing initially, but then I figured it wasn’t likely with a 2 year old vehicle. But… maybe early trans failure is a Jeep thing.

“lNo, it’s NOT the drivers. It’s the vehicles. My 2024 Jeep Grand Cheroke Laredo X has done the same thing twice in the last two weeks as I was driving with both hands on the steering wheel. It just happens out of nowhere. It’s a very dangerous situation as it could cause a serious, if not fatal, accident. You can bet your sweet bippy that Jeep knows about this, too. There are too many complaints on different forums online about this very thing!”

Due to lack of Jeep quality.

You forgot about the necessity  of bolting a jerry can onto the side of a Jeep Wrangler, while living in NJ–the most densely-populated state, with gas stations every few miles. Yes, I saw a Wrangler with NJ plates today, with a jerry can on the rear fender.

I hate to say it, but the OP really can’t help out due to this being an already returned rental, so no way of knowing if any codes or CELs or whatever…

But it sounds like the TCM and or the ECM need an update of some kind…
