2022 Lexus NX 300H - Cars stops and I need help

I have a Lexus NX 350 sport 2022 and I am having problems with vehicle stopping on me. Dealership says nothing is wrong . They tested battery but nothing . Put vehicle on computer etc . Battery was changed in November 2023. :woman_shrugging:t3:

Please define stopping on you in more detail??
Are you having problems with the vehicle stopping when you are applying the brakes??
Or do you mean the gas engine (ICE) is turning off on you while driving??

Old joke about a pilot telling the mechanic that the #4 engine is missing, the mechanic said found #4 engine, it was on the wing… It is all about the details…

As Dave request.

Is it possible your vehicle has auto start/stop and that is what you are experiencing? Have you tried turning the auto start/stop off?

Has it done this from the first day when you drove it off the lot?

If you mean the engine shuts off while driving like someone turned the ignition off, I usually found it to be caused by a bad crankshaft position sensor.

And as the article states, a bad crank sensor doesn’t always cause the Check Engine light to turn on.

My best advice is to take the car to a different Lexus dealership and/or to contact Lexus at the mfr level. Contact information is contained in the Owner’s Manual.

Also–unless the OP has racked-up a LOT of miles over the past 2 years, everything on the car is still covered by warranty… except, of course, for anything related to collision damage or abuse/misuse of the vehicle.

Yeah, please describe in great detail exactly what happens.

With that complaint I wouldn’t count on a technician to spend more than twenty minutes inspecting the vehicle, there are too many customers with vague complaints that can’t be verified.

If OP can’t elaborate on issue to a distant internet crowd then how can they explain issue to service tech who is driving vehicle?

OP may be frustrated by the dealership experience, & asking the best way to find an alternate shop who won’t simply tell them that nothing is wrong.

I did exactly that, despite the lack of helpful details from the OP. Did you not see my post (#5):

In any event, 5 days later, he/she never returned, so I suspect that this is just one more driveby.

Imagine how the technicians feel when dealing with complaints like this everyday:

Many Lexus owners are foreign born and do not communicate well. Is this a complaint about the brakes?

Engine stalling causes fault codes like P1603, no check engine light but it records an event.

The auto stop/start is very smooth, I think drivers don’t notice this occurring very often and think there is a problem when it is working as designed.

I think we have another one and done from car complaints, ask someone…

Like already said, not enough information, any help would just be throwing a dart at a dart board and hope it sticks…

As far as finding another shop, unless the OP gives a better account of what happened, it will be a waste of time, just tell the dealer what is happening in detail, and they will figure it out…

OP, suggest to keep it simple & describe just one of these incidents when the car stopped. What was the driving condition when it occurred: on the freeway, around town in stop and go driving, in a parking lot ? After it stopped, what did you do to get it going again?

During my tech days I had an experience where the husband of one of the customers treated me like I was out to mislead or steal something from them. They were suspicious about anything I said. If I recommended the circuit board be constructed in China they’d say “China is no good, what do you have against Taiwan?” If I then said “Taiwan is good for most circuit boards but this one requires some special processing that the shop in China has. But I think I can find a shop in Taiwan to do it if you prefer, but it might be more expensive.” The reply was “You don’t know what you are talking about!”. Eventually the wife said to the husband “just shut up!” … lol … …

Apparently when it stopped first time it was low on fuel but I wasn’t out of gas . Had 31 miles left to go … When I brought ot to dealership they said fuel rich which meant the car was starving for fuel. :woman_shrugging:t3:. Second time it was brought car seemed like it wanted to stop . Didn’t leave me on the road but as soon as I turn vehicle off it wouldn’t start … Then about 20 minute or so later . I turned vehicle on and it started … dealership ran every possible code and didn’t find anything…

Sooo, proceess of elimination . I said maybe it’s the Costco gas :woman_shrugging:t3:. I stop using that gas and fingers crossed my truck has not acted up or stalled on me … using Chevron gas now :rofl: :woman_facepalming:

Don’t know where you live but it quite possible that Costco and Chevron get their fuel from the same refinery. just try and not let your fuel level get below 1/4 tank and letting it get so low might be the problem.

You’re probably going to have to figure out a way to get it to the dealership at a time it won’t start. Ask if they’ll keep it there and let one of their techs drive it to and from home as their daily driver for a few days. Hopefully the problem will recur and the tech will be able to quickly figure it out. It is much easier to determine why a car won’t start, when it is tested at that time.

True ,. not having the car is a definite inconvenience to you, but imo a car that isn’t reliable is worse than no car at all. .

Just for clarification about the repair process and your communication with the shop: Shop’s don’t “run” the codes. They read the codes, and use what they read for clues about what system in the car is malfunctioning and continue the testing to determine what the actual problem is. The codes don’t tell the shop what the problem is, they just provide a clue where to look.

It is normal for the engine to stop running while the vehicle is not moving, at a traffic light for instance. The auto start/stop function is a fuel saving feature.

Do you mean that the engine stalled and would not respond to throttle commands?
