What does struts do in regards to alignment.

It depends on the strut mounting points.
There are two bolts at the bottom of the strut. If the top bolt is a concentric bolt, then it can be used to adjust camber.
Where the upper strut mount is bolted to the body may have different mounting holes that can be used to adjust the caster only or caster and camber. It depends on the design.
Some struts have no adjustments built into them, but often you can get an aftermarket kit to make adjustments with them.
