The driver’s seat appears to be binding against the plastic trim piece resulting in the seat beginning to crack/split apart.
The rubber surrounding the door is splitting.
What can be done before it gets worse?
I don’t suppose it’s still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty? Is there any way to bend the trim piece out of the way? A shop that does car upholstery might be able to fix the seat.
The door seal can be helped with some silicone based lubricant.
Are your seats leather or leatherette? If so you should apply some leather conditioning to them.
A picture would help to see how the trim and the fabric interact. Maybe look on VW forums for answers too.
