can engine failure be caused by bad turbocharger?
Infiniti dealer says NO!
What was the nature of the engine failure?
The only thing I could imagine was if the turbocharger blew foreign matter into the combustion chamber.

Possible bearing failure of the turbo dumping metal in the oiling system…
I agree, need more info on what failed 1st, and if the turbo, how long was it driven with a bad turbo??
My crystal ball is seeing some combination of a failed engine, with a failed turbo, an unclear history of oil changes which may have contributed to the turbo failure…some big repair bills…and a desire for “someone else” to pay such repair bills…Outlook is a little hazy, though…
So, what happens if your turbo goes out? Here are the key consequences:
1. Engine Damage
A malfunctioning turbo can break apart, sending metal debris into the engine. These fragments can damage critical components like the pistons, valves, and combustion chamber, leading to extensive and expensive repairs. In serious cases, the entire engine may need replacement.

@DaveL Have you had this vehicle awhile?
Or you bought it just recently?
Unless this Infiniti has an extended warranty, it’s 8 years old and out of warranty. Even most extended warranties should be expired.
Unlikely but each case would need to be reviewed to determine the cause of failure. If a failing turbocharger were ignored for so long that it resulted in complete loss of engine oil, that would be the fault of the driver of the vehicle.
The dealer is not going to pay for a replacement engine, you need to contact the manufacture and discuss the engine failure. They should be able to explain the reason for not providing you with a replacement engine.
There is an emissions warranty extension for turbochargers leaking oil and causing smoke, but it does not include engine replacement.
