We have a 2016 Hyundai Accent that has developed a rattling sound–not usually audible while driving, but quite obvious when idling at a stop sign (less when my foot is off the brake). We have taken it to the dealer twice, and both times we’ve been told that it “must be normal, since another used Accent on the lot makes the same sound.” We asked if we took it to another mechanic and a problem was found, would our warranty cover it? We were told it would not. We have complained to Hyundai corporate management via U.S mail, and have received no response for weeks. Any suggestions?
Make the dealer prove it by taking you for a ride in that other rattling Accent.
Thanks for the quick and sensible reply. Unfortunately, the mechanic had gone out into the lot to find a comparable same-year used car, and the only one there is long gone–we have a challenge to make the dealer aware that this isn’t a reasonable way to research the problem!
Is there another Hyundai dealer in your area? You don’t have to get warranty repairs done at a particular dealer.
What was the source of the rattle?
That’s what we’re trying to find out. And the dealer is saying that it must just be normal noise for a 2016 Accent.
There is not really another dealer anywhere close to us. Let me add this…the mechanics at the dealer tried to tell us it was a normal sound, since (they say) they heard it on that other vehicle, But at the same time, they cannot tell us what is making the sound. We say, if it’s “normal”, then Hyundai mechanics should certainly know where it’s coming from. Letters and e-mails to corporate have gone without so much as a head nod. No responses whatsoever; it’s mind-boggling! Anyone out there have a 2016 (or close) Accent that makes a rattle/clicking noise coming from under the hood (which is very audible when at a stop), and then discontinues when the brake is released? We would so love to take it back to the dealer and say “Check the XXXXX”!
