I’ve got a terrible rattle coming from the underside of the engine compartment of my '98 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L. It disappears completely with the slightest pressure on the accelerator. It varies in intensity during idle. The first time it happened it sounded like a loud whirring when I released the accelerator on the highway. Seems to have no affect on the cars performance (yet). A brief visual inspection under the car didn’t reveal anything obviously wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.

You will have to have someone under there to shake parts until he or she finds the one that is the problem. Likely a heat shield.
