2015 Chrysler 200 - Is this normal?

We lived in Florida when this vehicle was bought…flat terrain. We now live in hilly Arkansas. Our car tach races going down hill and sounds strained. My husband took it to the dealership but their terrain is fairly flat so it was not showing the same problem. We are older and feel it shouldn’t be doing what it does. However it only goes up to 3 or 4 on the tachometer. Is their anything you can help us with. Love your column. Carole

When using the cruise control the transmission will downshift while descending a grade to help control the vehicles speed in an effort not to exceed the set speed, that is why you see the engine speed increase. This also prevents excessive wear on the brakes.

As long as the tach doesn’t go past the red line, everything is fine.
