Has anybody checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge yet??
I honestly donât know. Iâm quite clueless about cars so rely on the expertise of the mechanics
I suspect the mechanic has NOT been going about this logically and systematically
That means someone was guessing, imo
Iâm going to speculate that over 1/2 of PCMs which are replaced are in fact NOT the cause of the problem
I donât disagree. A few attempts ago they said theyâd have the shop foreman on it. But whether he poked his head in or not it was assigned to the same tech. I just happened to hear the advisor tell someone who worked on it and it seemed to be the same tech.
I suggested a âfresh set of eyesâ needed to look. They just said âforeman is over seeing itâ. In an argument with the manager he was quite condescending in saying his techs are âvery goodâ.
At this point itâs costing me time only. Youâd think theyâd be highly motivated to dig deeper and resolve it. My only next option is to take it to my other garage and let them try. Which I might do. But as I said I havenât paid for a few attempts now. Theyâre doing everything for free currently.
Diagnostic trouble code P0523 signifies that there is trouble with the oil pressure sensor circuit or an actual excursion, to the high side, in oil pressure. A high reading is being recorded by the PCM due to either electrical or mechanical faults.
A P0523 can be an actual mechanical problem such as high oil pressure due to an obstruction in the oil passageway. Attempt to determine whether the code is set due to the wrong engine oil being used, or a faulty connector/connection/wiring/sensor in the oil pressure sender circuit (dealer already replaced?), and/or a failure to change the oil at regular intervals (humm?).
If the problem is not found in these potential faults, then the oil pressure needs to be checked using an external mechanical gauge. If pressure is high there could be a restriction or an oil pump pressure issue, if low it could be a oil pump or worn out bearings etcâŠ
Sounds like the dealer has thrown about everything at it but an actual oil pressure issueâŠ
Not saying this is your issue, but not ruling it out eitherâŠUntil the oil pressure is verified in/out of spec it is anyoneâs guessâŠ
I think weâve resolved things.
Had it back at the dealer this week for two days while they engaged with tech support.
To recap they had previously figured out the original issue (hesitating/bucking) as an ignition coil. But since that repair the check engine light was on and they could not figure out why. They determined it was the PCM and they figured their tech touched bare wires and damaged it. They wanted me to split the cost but then agreed to replace it for free.
They replaced the pcm but the check engine light remained on.
Turns out on a previous repair their tech got two wires backwards. There was no issue with the pcm at all. They seemed somewhat sheepish. They spent an enormous amount of time (and a new pcm) on this.
Light has remained off. Hopefully, case closed.
Thanks for the update. With todayâs computerized cars, mis-wiring is very unforgiving.
Many years ago a dealership shop accidentally mis-wired a fuel-pump relay circuit on my non-computerized car, as part of a manufacturerâs recall. This caused the fuel pump to turn on as soon as the key was in âonâ, which was incorrect. I pointed out to the service writer that the fuel pump never turned on until the engine cranked & started before. The service writer said, pointing at the bevy of new cars on the lot, âThey all turn the fuel pump on as soon as the key is in the âonâ position.â ⊠lol ⊠anyway, long story, but just saying this sort of thing happens from time to time, just bad luck is all. Glad your JC is back on the road and purring like a kitten.
I stand by my post #34âŠ
Glad they finally figured it out and now maybe you can get on with your lifeâŠ
Going behind someone trying to figure out there mess can be a nightmare, even worse if you are the one that did it and to hard headed to think you might have screwed it up to begin with⊠and donât check your own work⊠lol
