Pickup shifting hard and clangs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear happens a lot

Probably transmission problems, maybe a bad universal joint on top of that. Take it to a good independent transmission shop.

What’s the mileage?
What engine . . . if you tell us that, I can pretty much figure out which automatic transmission you have
And when I know which automatic transmission you have, then I can give you advice
Because I’m already leaning in a very specific direction
